The March 2010 National Association for Business Economics (NABE) Policy Survey reveals that two-thirds of the respondents believe that Federal Reserve monetary policy is appropriate at the moment. However, a majority believes that a rise in interest rates is both likely and appropriate in the next several months. More

The expansion is on track for a resumption of job gains in the near term and sustained growth over the next two years that will slightly exceed the economy’s trend pace. NABE panelists characterize the outlook as largely a traditional economic recovery—with sizable gains in discretionary spending by businesses and households—though still restrained by past wealth losses and excessive indebtedness. The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis’ Economic Education group is sponsoring its first-ever YouTube contest for college students. The Bank is seeking online videos that illustrate one or more of these three economic concepts for a high school audience: scarcity, factors of production, or opportunity cost. The contest begins Oct. 23, 2009, and runs through Dec. 18, 2009. See the St. Louis Fed for more info

The Economic Cycle Research Institute (ECRI) announces the annual Geoffrey H. Moore Award for business cycle research to encourage original research into economic cycles in the tradition established by ECRI’s late founder, Dr. Geoffrey H. Moore. The award consists of a $5000 cash prize for the best research paper utilizing international business cycle chronologies. Submissions will be accepted by all except ECRI employees and research associates.
