Katharine Abraham
former Bureau of Labor Statistics Commissioner
Katharine G. Abraham is Professor of Survey Methodology and Affiliate Professor of Economics with the Joint Program for Survey Methodology at the University of Maryland, and formerly Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
As the Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics for two four-year terms, from 1993 through 2001, Dr. Abraham instituted improvements in consumer, producer, and international price statistics, and employment and wage statistics. She laid the groundwork for the first U.S. Government survey of time use, and she established the only joint statistical agency advisory body, the Federal Economic Statistics Advisory Committee. During the public debate on the Consumer Price Index, Dr. Abraham steered a careful course of studying shortcomings and making revisions based on objective research. She expanded coverage of the prices of services in the Producer Price Index; instituted improvements in the Current Employment Statistics, including the substitution of a probability sample for the quota sample; accelerated delivery of employment and wage statistics; and took steps toward expanding coverage of wages and salaries in those programs.
Her research interests include the study of the labor market and economic measurement. She is co-author of the book Job Security in America: Lessons From Germany, co-editor of the book New Developments in the Labor Market: Toward a New Institutional Paradigm, and contributor of numerous articles to professional journals and edited collections. She has testified frequently before Congress.
Margot Anderson
Director, Office of Energy Markets and End Use
Energy Information Agency
Margot Anderson is currently, Director, Office of Energy Markets and End Use, Energy Information Administration, U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The Office of Energy Markets and End Use is responsible for publishing short-term energy forecasts, collecting and publishing comprehensive domestic and international energy statistics, analyzing international energy markets, conducting national energy consumption surveys, and publishing energy consumption data and analysis -- all of which are widely used by public and private sector customers. Prior to joining the Energy Information Administration, Margot was Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy Analysis, Office of Policy and International Affairs, Department of Energy (from 2000 to 2004) where she worked on a wide range of energy and environmental policy issues. From 1998-2000, Margot was Director of the Global Change Program Office at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). From 1987-2000, Margot held various staff and management positions at the Economic Research Service, Department of Agriculture. Her accomplishments as a career senior executive at USDA and DOE have been recognized with a Presidential Rank Award and a DOE Secretarial Gold Medal award. Margot received her PhD in agricultural economics from the University of Illinois in 1987.
Michael Armah
Program Manager
Bureau of Economic Analysis
Michael Armah joined the Bureau of Economic Analysis, National Income and Wealth Division, in 2002 as program manager overseeing the preparation of personal consumption expenditures (PCE) for services estimates. Before joining BEA, he spent 10 years at the Census Bureau’s Services Sector Statistics Division, where he worked as Section Chief (for half of his tenure) in the Current Services Branch with responsibility for much of the Service Annual Survey. As a Section Chief heI oversaw the implementation of North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) and subsequently, the implementation of the provisional North American Product Classification System (NAPCS) in the Service Annual Survey. While at the Census Bureau, he also worked in the Industry Classification Branch, where he contributed to the development of the new NAICS manual, and in the Retail & Wholesale Indicators Branch, where he worked as an industry analyst for the Advance Monthly Retail Sales and the Annual Retail Trade Surveys.
He has earned a bachelor’s degree in economics, with post-graduate studies in international transactions from George Mason University.
Richard Berner

Morgan Stanley
Richard Berner is a Principal in Morgan Stanley's Equity Research Department, and has responsibility for U.S. economic and financial research activities.
A native of Boston, Massachusetts, Mr. Berner received a bachelor of arts degree in economics from Harvard College, and a doctorate in economics from the University of Pennsylvania. He conducted dissertation research under SSRC-Ford Foundation grants at both the University of Louvain, Belgium, and at the University of Bologna, Italy.
Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, Mr. Berner was Executive Vice President and Chief Economist at Mellon Bank Corporation, and a member of Mellon Bank's Senior Management Committee. Previously, he served as a Principal and Senior Economist for Morgan Stanley and a Director and Senior Economist for Salomon Brothers. He has also served as Economist for Morgan Guaranty Trust Company, Director of the Washington, DC office of Wharton Econometrics and Economist for the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. He has been an adjunct professor of economics at Carnegie-Mellon University and at George Washington University.
Mr. Berner is also a member of the Board of the National Association for Business Economics and a member of the Board of Advisors of Macroeconomic Advisers, LLC. He has been a member of the Economic Advisory Committee of the American Bankers Association, Chairman of the Economic Advisory Board of the Pennsylvania Bankers Association, a member of the Board of Directors and past President of the Economic Club of Pittsburgh, a member of the Advisory Board of the Center for Economic Development at Carnegie Mellon University's Heinz School, a member of the Board of Trustees of Sewickley Academy, and a member of the Finance Advisory Committee of the Quaker Valley School District. He has also served as a member of the Pennsylvania Legislative Joint Task Force on Exports.
Beth Ann Bovino

Beth Ann Bovino is a senior economist at Standard & Poor’s, based in New York. In this position, she works with David Wyss, the chief economist, on S&P’s economic forecasts and publications, and co-authors the weekly Financial Notes and Weekly Economics Call. Beth Ann has created Industry Drivers reports for analyst research. She is quoted regularly in the press and has appeared on many major television programs. Further, she has written many articles for popular and professional publications.
Prior to joining Standard and Poor’s in February 2004, Beth Ann spent over ten years doing economic and market research with Sungard Institutional Brokerage, UBS Warburg, and the Federal Reserve.
Beth Ann holds a PhD in Economics from Columbia University, a Master's in International and Development Economics from Yale University, and a BS in Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania

Brian K. Bucks
Economist
Federal Reserve Board
Brian Bucks is an Economist in the Financial Studies Section, Division of Research and Statistics, at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. Mr. Bucks has been at the Board of Governors since 2004, where his work focuses on collecting, producing, and analyzing the Survey of Consumer Finances, a survey of household income and wealth conducted by the Federal Reserve Board every three years. His recent research includes an examination of how accurately homeowners assess the value of their home and how well they know the details of their mortgages. He has also analyzed the determinants of growth in homeownership in the last decade and is currently considering the effects of self-employment on income and wealth inequality. In other work, Mr. Bucks examined the effect of eliminating affirmative action in higher education on students' college choices and academic performance. Mr. Bucks received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

Before joining CSAM, she was Tucker Anthony’s Director of Economic Research for six years. During her career, she has worked as a money market economist at Drexel Burnham Lambert, and as a Fed-watcher at Chase Manhattan Bank. Kathleen Camilli received B.A. degrees in both Economics and French from Douglass College, Rutgers University. She studied at Universite de Laval, Quebec, Canada and Universite de Paris III, VII, France. She earned an M.B.A. in Finance and an M.A. in French Studies from New York University.
A frequent commentator, author and speaker, Kathleen Camilli is well known as a strong communicator and translator of complex issues into understandable, actionable ideas. She appears regularly on CNN, CNBC, The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, Nightly Business Report and Bloomberg Business News. She has been quoted in the financial press, including The Wall Street Journal, New York Times and USA Today.
Ms. Camilli is on the Board of Directors of MassBank Corp., the Money Marketeers of New York University, the National Association of Business Economists (NABE) and the National Council on Economic Education. She is a contributor to Blue Chip Financial Forecasts.
Ms. Camilli is a member of the Financial Women’s Association, the New York Women’s Bond Club, the Forecasters Club and the New York Association of Business Economists. Her civic activities include serving on the Board of the Epiphany School Foundation.
Joe Cardinale

Joe Cardinale is a senior economist at Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., an $8.1 billion industrial gas company serving customers in over 30 countries. In this position, he assists operating groups with pricing and contract support, market analysis and analysis of the impacts of economic conditions on business performance. He works with Duncan Meldrum, the Chief Economist, in the development of economic guidelines for the company’s operating plans. In addition to economics, Joe has spent over ten years with Air Products in their finance function, working primarily with project and cash flow analysis.
Joe earned bachelor’s degrees in economics and policy studies from Dickinson College, an MBA from the Krannert Graduate School of Management at Purdue University, and is working towards a doctorate in economics at Lehigh University.
Michael Carliner

MICHAEL CARLINER is the Staff Vice President for Economics at the National Association of Home Builders, responsible for economic analysis and forecasting. He has done extensive research into the dynamics of national and regional housing markets and conducted studies of related subjects such as demographic trends, consumer preferences, use of building materials, structure of the home building industry, and housing finance. Prior to joining NAHB in 1984, Mr. Carliner was Director of Regional Real Estate and Construction Economics at Chase Econometrics. He has also served as Vice President of Regional Data Associates and Senior Economist at Dynamics Associates. Mr. Carliner studied Economics and Finance at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a Research Fellow.
Patrick Casey

Patrick Casey is director of business forecasting and planning for TTX Company. Pat started his transportation career with Chessie System Railroads in 1983. He worked for Chessie and its successor, CSX, for 17 years in forecasting, market research and marketing. Pat joined TTX in his current position in May of 2000.
A native of Baltimore, Pat holds a bachelors degree in economics from Towson University and a masters degree in economics from the University of Delaware. He is a member of the National Association for Business Economic, the Chicago Association for Business Economics, the Intermodal Association of North America, the Intermodal Association of Chicago and the Midwest Foreign Commerce Club. Pat lives with his wife and three children in Lombard, Illinois.
Michael Chriszt

Michael Chriszt is the director of International and Regional Analysis in the Latin America Research Group at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. In addition to directing the work of the LARG, he monitors and reports on economic, financial, and political developments in foreign economies and the states of the Sixth District. He holds degrees in diplomacy and foreign affairs and history, and a master’s degree in political economy from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He joined the bank in 1989.
Richard Curtin

Richard T. Curtin has been the Director of the Surveys of Consumers at the Survey Research Center, The University of Michigan, since 1976.
The results from the surveys are widely used by businesses and financial institutions, by federal agencies responsible for monetary and fiscal policies, as well as by academic researchers. Data from the University of Michigan’s Surveys of Consumers is an official component of the Index of Leading Indicators, designed by the U.S. Department of Commerce and published by the Conference Board. This represents a significant, independent confirmation of the usefulness of the surveys for understanding and forecasting changes in the national economy.
Through frequent presentations and published articles, Dr. Curtin has reported on his research in behavioral economics, including consumer saving and spending behavior, household income and wealth, reactions to changing economic opportunities, and public policy preferences. He is a member of the American Economic Association, the Association for Consumer Research, and the International Association for Research in Economic Psychology. Dr. Curtin received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Michigan in 1975.
William Dunkelberg

William C. Dunkelberg is professor of economics at the School of Business and Management, Temple University, and chief economist of the National Federation of Independent Business. He is a nationally known authority on small business, entrepreneurship, consumer behavior and consumer credit, and government policy. Previously he was with Purdue, Stanford, and the University of Michigan. He is a fellow and past president of the National Association for Business Economics. He has a BA, MA, and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Michigan.

John Haltiwanger

John C. Haltiwanger received his Ph.D. from the Johns Hopkins University in 1981. After serving on the faculty of UCLA and Johns Hopkins, he joined the faculty at Maryland in 1987. He is a Research Associate of the Center for Economic Studies at the Bureau of the Census and of the National Bureau of Economic Research. His recent research has exploited the newly created longitudinal establishment data bases that are available at the Bureau of the Census. This research centers on the process of reallocation, retooling and restructuring in the U.S. economy and its connection to the business cycle. Maurine Haver

Maurine is President and founder of Haver Analytics Inc., an economic consulting and information services company. Prior to starting Haver Analytics in 1978, she was an economist in the economic forecasting group of General Electric in New York, a member of the International Staff of Companie Bull General Electric in Paris and a consultant in the Foreign Currency Exposure Management Group of the Chase Manhattan Bank in London.
Maurine served as President of the National Association of Business Economists (1994-95) and now chairs the NABE campaign for Quality Economic Data that she initiated during her year as president. In her role as Chair of the NABE Statistics Committee, she testifies before Congress on statistical issues, conducts quarterly meetings which bring together producers and users of federal statistics and organizes seminars to help users better understand the statistics available from government and private sources.
Maurine chairs the Business Research Advisory Council of the Bureau of Labor Statistics and is a member of the Advisory Committee of the Bureau of Economic Analysis. She has served as secretary of the Forecasters Club of New York since 1992. She is a past president of the New York Association for Business Economics (1989-90), the Downtown Economists Club (1993-94) and the Money Marketeers of New York University (1998-99). She chaired the board of the Council of Professional Associations on Federal Statistics (COPAFS) during 2001-2003. She currently serves on the board of Mutual of America and is a member of the American Economic Association, the American Statistical Association and the National Economists Club.
Maurine holds a B.S. in Economics and Mathematics from Michigan State University, an M.B.A. from the Stern School of New York University and completed her oral exam for a PhD in International Economics at NYU.
Ben Herzon

Ben joined Macroeconomic Advisers in June 1998 as a 'Mr.' and was upgraded to a 'Dr.' in May 1999 when he was awarded a Ph.D. in economics from Washington University in St. Louis. Ben's primary responsibilities at Macroeconomic Advisers involve utilizing monthly data to update MA's current-quarter forecast. This involves research into the construction of the National Accounts and modeling of interactions among monthly data series. Ben is a member of the National Association of Business Economics and a former member of the renowned rock group Lunker Buzz. Prior to his current stint with applied macroeconomics, Ben traveled the country in a Ford Econoline 150 with the band playing both known and unknown clubs for unconscionably low sums of money.
Stuart Hoffman

Stuart G. Hoffman is senior vice president and chief economist for The PNC Financial Services Group and serves as the principal spokesperson on all economic issues for PNC. Recently, Hoffman was named by BusinessWeek as the most accurate economic and interest rate forecaster of 2004. In addition, he has been recognized as the second most accurate forecaster by the National Association for Business Economics and in The Wall Street Journal’s economic survey covering the 1988 to 2002 period.
Hoffman joined PNC in 1980 after a six-year tenure with the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. He became vice president and senior economist for PNC in 1987 and was elected senior vice president and chief economist in 1991.
Hoffman is frequently quoted in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Barron’s, BusinessWeek and USA Today. He is a regular guest on CNBC, CNN, Bloomberg TV, The Wall Street Journal Radio Report and CNN News Radio. He is regularly interviewed by the Associated Press and Reuter’s news wire services. He is often quoted in regional media such as the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Philadelphia Inquirer.
In addition, Hoffman has regularly participated in the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City Jackson Hole Symposium, where he discusses key economic issues with Chairman Alan Greenspan and other global monetary policymakers.
Hoffman is the President and a member of the Board of Directors of the National Association for Business Economics (NABE). He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Partnership for Economic Education and the Economic Club of Pittsburgh--the local chapter of NABE.He is the past chairman of the American Bankers Association Economic Advisory Committee that met semi-annually with Chairman Greenspan and other Federal Reserve Board Governors.
Hoffman is a 1971 graduate of Pennsylvania State University. He received a master's degree in 1973 and a doctorate degree in economics in 1975, both from the University of Cincinnati, where he was a Charles Phelps Taft Memorial Fellow. In 2004, the University of Cincinnati honored him as a Distinguished Alumni.

Jacqueline Hudson is an Economist, Labor Market Information, for the Virginia Employment Commission. Prior to that, she has been Senior Client Manager at CIGNA Healthcare, and Business Development Consultant at Sedgwick, Inc.
She has also been president of the Richmond Association for Business Economics, the local NABE chapter in Richmond, Virginia, and is a member of the Health Economics Roundtable.
She has a Business Management degree with a Certificate in Management from James Madison University. She also has a Certificate in Economic Development from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
Mr. Donald E. Inscoe (Don)

Don is currently the Deputy Director of the FDIC Division of Insurance and Research. He has more than 30 years experience in the information business, with both business and technical perspectives. He has worked to make banking statistics useful for a wide variety of purposes for audiences both within the banking agencies and the private sector.
Don has led the development of numerous publications used as standard references for comparative analysis of individual institutions as well as the overall condition of the banking industry. Bank examiners, investors, bankers, other private and government analysts and the media typically use these publications.
Don began his FDIC career as a bank examiner, and is a graduate of the University Of Maryland School Of Business, 1971.
Dr. Robert A. Kemp, C.P.M.,

Dr. Robert A. Kemp operates a small consulting and seminar business, Kemp Enterprises. Before leaving the faculty of the Department of Management, College of Business and Public Administration at Drake University in August 1994, Dr. Kemp was a Professor of Management with tenure, and Director of the Small Business Institute from 1982 to the summer of 1994. He taught in the areas of international business and world trade, management, business strategies and policies, and entrepreneurship. For 12 years, Professor Kemp published a widely read quarterly report titled The Mid-American Survey of Business Conditions. Dr. Kemp was the 1993-1994 President of the Small Business Institute Directors’ Association. The association represented 530 schools and universities with strong academic entrepreneurial interests and that help small businesses.
Professor Kemp received his BA from George Washington University in 1964 and his BS from the University of Maryland in 1966. His MBA (1968) and Ph.D. (1979) degrees are from Arizona State University.
Dr. Kemp's areas of concentration in his doctorate are management, marketing, and international business. His dissertation, which was supported by a NAPM dissertation grant, is a major study concerning procedures used by six major American industries to purchase raw materials, and parts or components from international sources. He has written several articles and papers on topics concerning military preparedness and planning, purchasing procedures in international business, ethics, and innovation by small businesses. He has been a presenter at the NAPM International Conferences of 1985, 1986, 1989, 1992, 1993, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005. Dr. Kemp leads seminars for purchasing personnel on topics such as strategic management for purchasing, ethics and change, EDI and procurement cards, international purchasing, purchasing image, and advanced techniques for purchasing. He is a frequent speaker on economic issues, leadership, ethics, and management topics, for business or individuals. He has led training programs in Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong. He has been deeply involved in designing and developing web-based training and education programs.
Dr. Kemp was Chair of NAPM's (now ISM) Academic Planning Committee in 1993-95. He has served on the Editorial Re-view Board for both the Journal of International Purchasing and Materials Management, and the European Journal of Purchasing and Supply Chain Management. As Chair of APC, he was a member of the CAPS Board of Trustees. The International Committee of NAPM named Dr. Kemp the first ever, "International Person of the Year", for 1989-1990. Kemp has earned a lifetime certification as a purchasing manager. District III presented Dr. Kemp the esteemed Joseph P. Stagg award in 1994. Dr. Kemp received the "NAPM President's award" for many years of outstanding service to the national organization and its membership in 1995.In 1993, Dr. Kemp wrote Procedures for Starting and Managing Business Surveys and Reports of Business Conditions, which waspublished by NAPM as a Pamphlet for its affiliates and others. The Procedures for Creating, Publishing and Using a Marketing Plan for NAPM Affiliates was written by Dr. Kemp for use by affiliate leadership in 1994. He chaired the NAPM Volunteer Training Committee that developed five training manuals for NAPM volunteer leaders during 1994-1995. Dr. Kemp was President of the National Association of Purchasing Management in 1997-1998, and Immediate Former President in1998-1999. NAPM has over 45,000 members. He was the 2005 recipient of the Jay Shipman Gold medal Award from ISM.
A native of Leon, Iowa, Dr. Kemp and his wife, Alice, now live in Des Moines.
Jack Kleinhenz

Jack Kleinhenz, PhD, is CEO of Kleinhenz & Associates, a business and economic consulting firm based in Cleveland, Ohio. The firm specializes in industry studies, regional economics, labor market issues strategic planning and business plan development.
Jack has over 20 years of broad-based experience working with a variety of firms including fortune 500 companies. He is known for translating economics and information into clear explanations and action. Jack speaks on business and regional economic issues and regularly called upon for his expertise by the local and national media. Formerly with the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, Jack recently served as chief economist and consultant to the Greater Cleveland Growth Association, the nation’s largest chamber of commerce. He teaches economics as a faculty member of CASE’s Weatherhead School of Management and serves as senior regional economist for the Center for Regional Economics Issues.
A graduate of John Carroll University, Jack earned his M.A. and Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Notre Dame. He has completed post-graduate programs at Weatherhead School of Management and Carnegie Mellon University. In 1995, Jack was named one of John Carroll University’s Top 50 School of Business Graduates. Previous faculty appointments include the University of Notre Dame and John Carroll University.

Catherine L. Mann

Catherine L. Mann has been a senior fellow at the Institute for International Economics since 1997. Previously, she served as assistant director of the International Finance Division at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, senior international economist on the President's Council of Economic Advisers at the White House, and adviser to the chief economist at the World Bank.
Her current work focuses on the economic and policy issues of global information, communications, and technology, particularly with reference to the US economy, labor market, and international trade. Her recent Institute policy brief "Globalization of IT Services and White-Collar Jobs: The Next Wave of Productivity Growth" and forthcoming book High-tech and Globalization in America address these issues.
She is author or coauthor of two books that focus on the policy foundations for effective use of technology for domestic development and external competitiveness. APEC and the New Economy (2002) was presented to and endorsed by APEC Leaders at their meeting in Shanghai, China. Global Electronic Commerce: A Policy Primer (2000) uses general analysis and specific examples from field research in more than 10 countries to address how the Internet and electronic commerce affect policymaking, with particular focus on infrastructure and policy issues of taxation, privacy, security, intellectual property, and trade negotiations. In addition she directs a project funded by the Ford Foundation to support collaborative research comparing Asian and Latin American countries on how technology affects entrepreneurship, government, education and skills, and financial intermediation. She has delivered keynote speeches and engaged in projects on technology and policy in China, Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan, Sri Lanka, Mexico, Morocco, Tunisia, South Africa, as well as in Australia, Canada, Finland, Germany, and New Zealand.
She also studies broader issues of US trade, the sustainability of the current account, and the exchange value of the dollar. Published in 1999, Is the US Trade Deficit Sustainable? answers perennial questions about the impact of global integration on the US economy and the dollar. A Journal of Economic Perspectives (2002) article reviews concepts of sustainability, including the role of international financial markets and international trade in services, topics also addressed in "How Long the Strong Dollar?" in Dollar Overvaluation and the World Economy, edited by John Williamson and C. Fred Bergsten, and in "The US Current Account, New Economy Services, and Implications for Sustainability" in the Review of International Economics.
In addition to her work at the Institute, Mann taught for 10 years as adjunct professor of management at the Owen School of Management at Vanderbilt University and two years at the Johns Hopkins Nitze School for Advanced International Studies, among other university courses. She received her PhD in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her undergraduate degree is from Harvard University.

Rosemary Marcuss is the Deputy Director of the US Bureau of Economic Analysis and the President of NABE. She was a member of the Board of Directors of NABE from 2000 to 2003.
From 1983 to 1998, she was the Assistant Director for Tax Analysis, U.S. Congressional Budget Office (CBO), where she was responsible for Congressional tax receipts forecasts and tax policy analysis. She has also been: Senior Manager and Economist, Data Resources, Inc.; Assistant to the President, American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees; junior staff member, Council of Economic Advisers; Director, National Tax Association; Member: District of Columbia Tax Revision Commission.
She has a Ph.D. University of Maryland, where she had a National Science Foundation Fellowship.
Robert T. McGee

Tim McGee is Chief Economist at U.S. Trust. He is responsible for the economic forecast and other economic research with a focus on investment strategy. In addition, he serves on the Finance and Investment Strategy Committees.
Prior to joining U.S. Trust, Mr. McGee was a strategist and economist with UFJ and Tokai Banks. He is well known in Japan for his regular market column in the Nikkei Financial Daily. In 2000, Business Week magazine recognized him for making the most accurate forecast in its annual survey of economists. More recently, both Bloomberg and USA Today recognized him for outstanding forecasting accuracy. He has appeared on CNBC, Reuters, and Bloomberg TV and has often been quoted in various publications like the Wall Street Journal and Financial Times.
Mr. McGee began his career in the academic world teaching at Florida State University and New York University. He also spent three years at the New York Federal Reserve Bank and one year as a fellow at the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Studies. He has published numerous articles in academic journals.
Tim received his B.S. from the Georgia Institute of Technology and his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Wisconsin. Some of his memberships include the American Economic Association, the National Association of Business Economics, The Forecasters Club of New York and the Money Marketeers. He currently serves as Chairman of the American Banker Association’s Economic Advisory Committee. In that capacity he will also serve on the ABA Government Relations Committee. Recently, he joined the New York City Economic Advisory Panel.
Susan Hume McIntosh

Susan Hume McIntosh is a senior economist with the Flow of Funds Section of the Division of Research and Statistics at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. She began working at the Federal Reserve in 1972 and has spent most of her career working on the flow of funds accounts. From 1979-1985 she was the assistant to Governor Charles Partee at the Federal Reserve.
She currently is responsible for coordinating the compilation of the flow of funds accounts each quarter and works on the financial forecast for the FOMC. Her main sectoral responsibility has been commercial banks and thrifts, but she is involved in all structural changes and major data revisions in the flow of funds account. She has been vice chairman of the OECD committee on financial statistics for three years. She has worked on several IMF projects, including the current pilot project on financial soundness indicators. She is working with BEA on a joint project on “Integrated Macroeconomic Accounts for the United States” that will be release in the fall of 2006.
Ms. McIntosh received her MBA in finance and investments from The George Washington University and her BA from the College of William and Mary.
Duncan Meldrum

Duncan Meldrum is the Chief Economist for Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., an $8.1 billion industrial gas company serving customers in over 30 countries. As Chief Economist, he assesses the impact of the economic environment on the company’s performance for the executive management team and develops global economic assumptions for the company’s operating plans. He provides operating groups with pricing assistance, contract support and market analyses. He also serves as the company’s economics spokesperson.
He received a B.S. degree from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1973, a M.S. degree in Operations Research from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in 1974, and a Ph.D. in Economics from Lehigh University in 1992. He is a member of the Advisory Committee to the U.S. Census Bureau. He serves as a director on the boards of the APCI Federal Credit Union and the nonprofit Parkette National Gymnastics Center. He is a past president of the National Association for Business Economics. His other professional associations include the Conference of Business Economists, the National Business Economic Issues Council, and the American Economics Association.
Norman J. Morin

Norman Morin is a senior economist at the Federal Reserve Board in the
Industrial Output Section of the Division of Research and Statistics. His
primary responsibilities include forecasting the industrial sector, estimating capacity utilization, and researching topics related to industry output and capacity utilization.
He received his undergraduate degree in mathematics from the University of Michigan and his Ph.D. in economics from the University of California at San Diego. He is in his eighth year at the Federal Reserve Board.
Robert Parker
Robert Parker is a nationally and internationally recognized expert in
economic accounting concepts and methods and in U.S. economic statistics.
Since retiring from federal service in July 2005, he has been consulting on
these topics with government, non-profit, and business clients. He retired
from Federal service in July 2005 after 5 years as Chief Statistician of
the Government Accountability Office. Previously he spent 30 years at the
Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) where served as Chief Statistician,
Associate Director for National Economic Accounts, and Chief, National
Income and Wealth Division. Prior to moving to BEA, he served 9 years at
the Census Bureau with responsibility for the Enterprise Statistics
Program.
Mr. Parker was the recipient of the Butler Award (2000) given by the New
York Association for Business Economics, and the Julius Shiskin Award for
1999. He received the Presidential Rank Award of Meritorious Executive
(1998); the Department of Commerce Gold Medal Award (1996 and 1998). He was
elected Fellow of the American Statistical Association in 1986.
Mr. Parker is currently serving as a member of a Committee on National
Statistics panel on the Census Bureau’s State and Local Government
statistics program and as a representative of the National Association for
Business Economics to the Council of Professional Association for Federal
Statistics. Previously he served for many years as a member of the
Statistics Canada National Accounts Advisory Committee and the Federal
Committee on Statistical Methodology.
Mr. Parker continues to be an author and editor of the statistics columns
in Business Economics, NABE’s quarterly journal. He also has authored and
co-authored many articles in the Survey of Current Business, BEA’s monthly
journal.
Ralph Petta

Ralph Petta is Vice President-Industry Services for the Equipment Leasing Association of America (ELA). He has been with the association since April 1987. Mr. Petta’s primary responsibility is managing the development of the association’s industry information resources and data-collection projects, including the annual Survey of Industry Activity, Monthly Leasing Index, and Industry Compensation Survey.In addition, he oversees the development of various benchmarking and market segment analyses as well as related industry research and reference publications sponsored by the ELA. Mr. Petta has liaison responsibilities with several ELA constituent committees and Business Councils.
Mr. Petta is a member of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE). He has completed the ASAE/University of Maryland Executive Development Program in Association Management and was selected to participate in the ASAE Future Leaders Conference.
Before joining ELA, Mr. Petta worked for nine years in the office of United States Senator Sam Nunn, serving in a variety of professional capacities. He was Senator Nunn’s legislative assistant when he left in 1987 to join the association

He currently analyzes trends in energy supply and demand for API, provides print, radio and television interviews and briefings on related topics, and oversees API’s widely-followed weekly data on petroleum supplies and API’s monthly analysis of U.S. petroleum supply and demand. He has also facilitated committees of energy industry financial executives in the area of auditing, insurance, and risk management.

Steve Reed received a B.A. in Economics from the College of William and Mary and a M.A. in Economics from the University of Maryland. He has taught at the University of Oklahoma, Hood College, The Johns Hopkins University and the University of Maryland. His background includes work in the private sector as an owner of a mortgage banking company, a portfolio manager in an investment firm, a certified financial planner and registered general securities principal in an investment firm, and extensive financial consulting with over 300 growing firms in the Mid-Atlantic area and Latin America. He has also done real estate and financial research for the Governor’s Office of the State of Texas, the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the Scottish Office (Great Britain). His current work with the US Department of Commerce involves analyis of mortgages, residential mortgage markets, and financial analysis of multifamily properties.

Dr. John Silvia joined Wachovia in February 2002 as chief economist for the Bank. Previously, John worked on Capitol Hill as senior economist for the U.S. Senate Joint Economic Committee and chief economist for the U.S. Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee. Prior to that, he was chief economist of Kemper Funds and managing director of Scudder Kemper Investments, Inc. Before joining Kemper Funds, John worked for Harris Bank and taught economics at Indiana University.
John holds a B.A. and a Ph.D. degree in economics from Northeastern University in Boston and has a Master’s degree in economics from Brown University in Providence, RI.
John serves as a member of the Blue Chip Panel of Economic Forecasters and also serves on an informal advisory group for the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. He is a member of the Economic Advisory Committee at the American Bankers Association and is President of the Charlotte Economics Club. In the past, John has served on economic advisory committees to the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, and the Public Securities Association.
In addition, John is Treasurer and a member of the Board of Directors for The Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, a Charlotte civic association. Shelly Smith is an economist with the National Income and Wealth Division (NIWD) of the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), U.S. Department of Commerce (USDOC). She began working at BEA in May of 1997. At BEA, she serves as a member of the team responsible for the review and analysis of the quarterly gross domestic product (GDP) estimates. Prior to joining NIWD, Ms. Smith was an economist with the Federal Branch of BEA’s Government Division where she developed estimates of several components of the government accounts, including Federal Government spending on research and development and the current surplus of Federal Government enterprises.
Ms. Smith received her Masters Degree in Applied Economics from the Johns Hopkins University, and her Bachelor’s Degree in International Studies and in Economics from Frostburg State University in western Maryland.

Thomas Kevin Swift

A native of Buffalo, New York, Dr. Swift is a graduate of Ashland College with a BA degree and a graduate of Case Western Reserve University with a MA degree in Economics. He has also completed the Tax Analysis and Revenue Forecasting Program and other studies at Harvard University, as well as a DBA (doctorate in business administration) at Anglia Polytechnic University.
Dr. Swift is employed by the American Chemistry Council in Arlington, Virginia where he is responsible for economic and other analyses dealing with various business, trade, tax, energy, and related issues. He is also responsible for monitoring business conditions and industry structure, as well as identifying emerging trends. Dr. Swift is also involved in collection and dissemination of industry data, information and analysis to member companies, the media, and the public in general.
Prior to joining the American Chemistry Council, Dr. Swift held several executive and senior level positions at several business information/database companies, directing business research, forecasting, and consulting efforts as well as domestic and international business forecasting services and related on-line databases. He also conducted industrial market research and related projects. Dr. Swift started his career at Dow Chemical USA.
Dr. Swift is a member of the National Association for Business Economics (NABE) and is a member of NABE's panel of 40 professional forecasters and a participant in the Philadelphia Federal Reserve Bank's forecasters' survey. He is also a member of the Commercial Development and Marketing Association and the Société de Chimie Industrielle. Dr. Swift is also on the editorial advisory board of Chemical Management Review and has authored articles in such diverse journals as Business Economics, Chemistry Business, Chimica Oggi, Cost Engineering, and Hydrocarbon Processing, among others.
