Steve Reed received a B.A. in Economics from the College of William and Mary and a M.A. in Economics from the University of Maryland. He joined the Bureau of Labor Statistics in 1998 and over the past six years has done extensive research on the Consumer Price Index, including co-creating the CPI-U Research Series. He is also a frequent speaker on the CPI and related matters. When not working he is often chasing around his five-year-old daughter and three-year-old son.

Global Insight
John Mothersole is a senior member of Global Insight’s Pricing and Purchasing Service. He helps supervise the service’s price and wage forecasts, and is directly responsible for its nonferrous metal industry outlook. Mr. Mothersole is also a regular contributor to the monthly U.S. Economic Outlook, where he writes on inflation. Other duties include project management of client cost escalation and cost benchmarking studies.
Mr. Mothersole joined Global Insight in 1980 as an associate economist and has served in a number of positions within the Industry Practice. He received his B.A. and M.A. in Economics from the University of Maryland. Mr. Mothersole is a member of the National Association of Business Economists.
In addition to his work with Global Insight clients, Mr. Mothersole has provided analysis of inflation and commodity prices to such news organizations as the New York Times, Bloomberg, ABC News, Fortune, the Nightly Business Report, Fairchild Publications, the Dow Jones News Service's morning newscast and USA Today’s First Business report. He has also provided commentary on metals prices to Purchasing, the American Metal Market,Platts Metals Week, and the Engineering-News Record.
