The Chicago Association for Business Economics will host a luncheon program June 29 with NABE Board Member William Strauss, senior economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, who will recap the auto industry symposium. The event will be held at the Chicago Fed.
The Los Angeles Chapter is preparing for its 4th Annual Robert T. Parry Award luncheon to be held on June 16. The guest speaker will be Teresa M. Curran, group vice president of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, who will discuss “Financial Reform: The Fed’s Perspective.” LA NABE also will honor a local student with the 3rd Annual Economics Essay Award at the event, reports Chapter President Sara Sutachan, senior research analyst at the California Association of Realtors.
The New Orleans Regional Council for Business Economics will host a program on May 11 with Michael Ricks, director of the Small Business Administration, Louisiana District Office, on the topic “New SBA Developments and Programs in the District Office.” On April 13, the chapter held a program on “Health Care Economics and Changes in the Health Care Industry” with W.J. “Dub” Lane, chair of the Department of Economics and Finance at the University of New Orleans.
The San Francisco Chapter is wrapping up an excellent series of programs this spring, reports Anne Marie Wenzel, chapter president. Ellen Hanak, director of research and senior fellow at the Public Policy Institute, will speak at a luncheon on May 5 about "California Water Myths and the Challenge of Sustainable Water Resource Management." She will focus on issues discussed in the Pubic Policy Institute of California's recent publication, California Water Myths . In March the chapter hosted a session with Stanford economist John B. Taylor on monetary policy, and in April the chapter returned to its regular monthly venue at the Federal Building in San Francisco’s Civic Center with a talk by NABE member Shawn DuBravac, chief economist and director of research for the Consumer Electronics Association.
The Philadelphia Council for Business Economics has scheduled programs for May and June. On May 10, the chapter will host a program with Marc Chandler, global head of currency strategy at Brown Brothers Harriman, on “The Dollar: FX Strategy for Today and Tomorrow.” On June 1, Eileen Appelbaum of Rutgers University will discuss “Comparison of Labor Markets in the Great Recession.”
