NABE Launches EconJobs.org, KnowledgeLink

In an effort to assist its members in a tough labor market, NABE launched EconJobs.org in late November and it promptly attracted several dozen job seekers and now includes more than 1,500 postings by employers.

Separately, NABE introduced an update option to members for teleconferences through KnowledgeLink.   For $100 a year members can have all-inclusive access to NABE teleconferences, including those hosted by Roundtables on a variety of timely topics and those held upon the release of NABE’s survey.

The new online service EconJobs.org, which is open to anyone searching for positions that involve work in economics, combines the features of a job bank, career center, and professional information database. Within the first two weeks, EconJobs.org attracted an additional 55 resumes and job postings from over 1,500 employers.

"NABE is always striving to create new and better career resources for our members, and there has never been a better time than now to build a job bank for economists at every level of the profession," said NABE President Lynn Reaser, chief economist at Point Loma Nazarene University.

The professional information database includes profiles of economists, highlights from NABE’s biennial Salary Survey, a Consultant’s Registry and a Speakers’ List, Reaser pointed out.

Members Enjoy Discount, Advantage in Access

"We launched econjobs.org to bring efficiency to the job-search and hiring processes in the field of economics," said NABE Executive Director Tom Beers. "Hiring managers will appreciate NABE's highly targeted pool of potential applicants and job seekers will find a large share of all economics jobs in one place.”

NABE members have an advantage as either a job seeker or an employer listing an opening.   When posting their resumes, NABE members will receive “featured access,” ensuring their resumes top billing in searches by prospective employers.  In posting job vacancies, members receive a $100 discount for each job opening listed. Members pay $199/Non-members pay $299.

EconJobs.org represents a significant addition to NABE’s popular career center, which is open to all job seekers.   Profiles of economists who hold different types of jobs are featured on the career pages and are often used by counselors at universities and colleges.  Highlights of the NABE 2008 Salary Survey, the most recent one, are available on this part of the website, and the entire survey is provided to members at no additional cost and to nonmembers for a fee.  The next Salary Survey will be conducted in 2010.

KnowledgeLink For Conference Calls

NABE’s newly organized Roundtables are organizing a full schedule for the next year and held four calls in December alone.  In the past two years, NABE has averaged 25 teleconferences, with participants paying a nominal fee of $15 per session.   Many frequent participants spend more than $200 a year.

Members can upgrade to KnowledgeLink when they renew their membership or separately.   Find out more about KnowledgeLink here.
