Get Connected Will Host Skills Session, Starts Webinars

Team leaders of Get Connected are planning a skills seminar for the 51st Annual Meeting October 10-13 in St. Louis, and the group has begun testing methods for presenting skills sessions online through teleconferences, webcasts, and archived webinars.

Set for the morning of Sunday, October 11, the skills session will focus on careers with speaker Marc Cenedella, founder and chief executive officer of TheLadders.com, Inc., a New York based company.  The firm is a privately held company offering online recruiting resources to recruiters and job seekers in the $100,000 plus employment market.

Candice Hynek, the Get Connected team member who is organizing the session, said that Cenedella will offer “insights on career strategies in the current economic environment and discuss how he uses business economics in his successful company.”

Watch for details about a Get Connected networking event at the annual meeting, too, said Chris Swann, former NABE board member and coordinator of the program for early and mid-career professionals.  He reported that the LinkedIn group for Get Connected has grown to more than 200 people since it was started about 18 months ago.“Members are using LinkedIn to generate discussions and maintain relationships,” he pointed out.

The Get Connected mentoring program is now in full swing.  Join as a mentor or mentee by filling out the form on the group’s webpages at: http://nabe.com/getconnected/mentor.html

New Approaches to Online Sessions

Along with NABE, the Get Connected team is testing “different methods for presenting skills sessions online through live teleconferences, webcasts, archived webinars, or other means,” reported Liz Webbink of inkweb.com, and a Get Connected team leader.

On June 17, a small group of Get Connected members participated in a live webcast on "Principles of Information Design" with Webbink.  Michael Warner, CEO of Quantum4d, provided WebEx access and served as moderator. “Participants were asked to comment on the ease of the format as well as the usefulness of the content. Members will be notified when materials from the webcast are available on the web and what additional sessions will be offered,” Webbink said.

Participants are needed for all Get Connected teams, including mentoring, career development, membership/marketing/Web, programs, chapters, and the GC management team.  Contact either Chris Swann or Debbie Cason for more information and to volunteer.
