The Gateway Chapter, in St. Louis, was a co-sponsor of the Homer Jones Memorial Lecture held April 15 at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.  Raghuram G. Rajan, the Eric J. Gleacher Distinguished Service Professor of Finance at the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business, presented the lecture on "The Credit Crisis and Cycle Proof Regulation."   A summary and video of the lecture are online.

The Chicago Association for Business Economics will hear from a past president of NABE and a current board member in coming weeks.  On May 27, former NABE President Carl Tannenbaum, vice president, Risk Management, Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, will be the luncheon speaker.  On June 16, William Strauss, current board member and senior economist and economic adviser, Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, will provide a recap of the Fed’s Auto Industry Symposium. The Los Angeles Chapter hosted a luncheon session April 22 on the outlook for construction and real estate, with two NABE members as guest speakers—Ken Simonson, chief economist, the Associated General Contractors of America; and Robert Kleinhenz, deputy chief economist, the California Association of Realtors. The New Orleans Council for Business Economics has scheduled a luncheon program for May 12 with speaker Janet Speyrer, associate dean of research and professor of economics at the University of New Orleans.  She will describe the “Current State of the Metropolitan New Orleans Economy.” Details

The San Francisco Chapter plans to host a program May 6 on “Industrial Clusters: San Francisco from the Gold Rush to the Cold War” with speaker Michael Adamson, historical researcher, writer, and consultant.  He will discuss industrial clustering in and around the Bay area, with reference to four cases: metalworking, shipbuilding, airframes, and electronics during that period. The Denver Association of Business Economists (DABE) hosted a luncheon April 15 on “Renewable Energy in Colorado and the Smart Grid.”   David Hiller, executive director of the Colorado Renewable Energy Collaboratory; and Ron David, principal economist at the Colorado Public Utilities Commission, were the two speakers.  See details about the program.

The National Economists Club (NEC), the chapter in Washington, D.C., has a program set for April 23 on “A Conversation on the Automobile Industry” with Cody Lusk, president of the American International Automobile Dealers Association.  On May 7, NEC members are invited to a reception and briefing at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China with Ambassador Zhou Wenzhong.  See the chapter website for details and podcasts of many programs.
