What is your current position?
I am senior economist at The Parthenon Group. I work with Parthenon's economics team to do macroeconomic forecasting and modeling work. I have held the position for one year.
What is the main focus of your company or organization?
The Parthenon Group is a leading global advisory firm focused on strategy consulting and principal investment with client work in corporate and business unit strategy, public and private sector education, healthcare, and private equity.
What are your career highlights and education--before your current job?
I graduated with a B.S. in economics and mathematics from Duke University. I received my Ph.D. in economics from the University of California, Berkeley; there I studied behavioral economics under Matthew Rabin. Prior to joining Parthenon, I worked in player evaluation for the Philadelphia Eagles as a statistician.
Why did you join NABE?
Now is an incredibly interesting time to be an economist. I really looked forward to hearing the range of opinions at the NABE conference.
What drew you to economics?
A few great teachers early on made an economist’s lens clear and engaging.

What is your current position?
I am the principal analyst in the Tax Policy and Corporate Plan Section of the Kenya Revenue Authority. I have been in this position for one year and three months.
What is the main focus of your organization?
The main focus for the Kenya Revenue Authority is to collect revenue for government of Kenya and ensure that government revenue targets are met. The authority is also mandated to initiate any reform(s) for revenue enhancement.
What are your career highlights and education--before your current job?
I have a Master of Arts in economics and Bachelor of Arts in economics from the University of Nairobi, Kenya. I have previously worked with recognized research organizations in the country (Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis – KIPPRA—and the Institute of Policy Analysis and Research-IPAR) as a research officer, where I participated in various research activities and produced research papers. This was between year 2002 and mid-2005. From mid-2005 up to 2007, I worked as an economist with the Ministry of Planning and National Development. I joined the Kenya Revenue Authority in the beginning of year 2008 as a principal analyst in the Research and Corporate Planning Division.
Why did you join NABE?
I joined NABE because I want to enhance my ability of making sound business decisions through interacting with other NABE members and also through participating in many other activities such as the NABE Roundtables and teleconferences.
What drew you to economics?
I love economics as a profession.

What is your current position?
My current position is as a research associate at DundeeWealth Economics. I have been with DundeeWealth for seven months. My family and I relocated to Victoria, B.C., in August 2008 from Hilo, Hawaii.
What is the main focus of your company or organization?
DundeeWealth Economics follows macroeconomic trends for both the United States and Canada. We produce several monitors: weekly publications include the Financial and Gold Monitors, and monthly we publish the Economic, Stock & Bond, and Market Monitors. Our chief economist, Dr. Martin Murenbeeld is, well known for his work in gold forecasting.
What are your career highlights and education--before your current job?
I attended the University of Hawaii at Hilo where I received a B.A. in economics and am completing a M.A. in China-U.S. Relations. While attending the University of Hawaii at Hilo, I co-published a paper with Dr. Terrance Jalbert in 2005, “Geographic Focused Mutual Funds: An Empirical Analysis of the Portfolio Properties of a Hawaii Fund” (Academy of Accounting and Financial Studies Journal, Volume 11, number 1, 2007) and was the research assistant for “The Contribution of the University of Hawai’i to Hawai’i’s Economy in 2006” (http://www.hawaii.edu/offices/app/econimpact/report2007). In addition, I was able to explore my entrepreneurial spirit by owning an espresso café for several years before relocating to Victoria.
Why did you join NABE?
I have been following monetary policy of the United States and saw information about NABE’s Washington, D.C., Economic Policy Conference. The conference was an excellent opportunity to hear speakers and meet others interested in monetary policy.
What drew you to economics?
I had been an investment consultant for the Bank of Hawaii when I decided to return to the University of Hawaii at Hilo as a nontraditional student to finish my degree. The introductory economics class I took grabbed my attention, and the classes and research projects I undertook drew me into pursuing the field as a career.
