Pace of Payroll Gains

This graph shows what the NABE Outlook Panel is forecasting for payroll gains in the September 2006 NABE Outlook:
Steady, but more subdued employment gains are expected. Over the six quarters ending in the fourth quarter of 2007, employment growth is expected to average 1.1%, down from 1.4% in the May survey. However, the consensus expectation of the average unemployment rate in 2006 and 2007 remained unchanged at 4.7 and 4.9, respectively, reflecting less of a cyclical rebound in labor force than previously expected.
