Net Rising Index, Industry Demand, NABE Industry Survey July 2008

The Graph of the Week is the Net Rising Index for Demand from the July 2008 NABE Industry Survey. From the survey:
Overall industry demand growth bounced back from the recessionary levels of Q1 to the levels of the first half of 2007. The net rising index (NRI)—the difference between the percent of respondents who reported rising minus falling demand—gained 20 points from last quarter, the highest single quarter surge since 2003, but it remains at a fairly subdued level of 26 (See Figure 1). The NRI is consistent with other evidence that the U.S. economy has avoided a recession so far this year but is still below trend growth.
