Employment Net Rising Index

The Graph of the Week is the Net Rising Index of Employment from the April 2007 NABE Industry Survey. From the survey:
Employment growth among respondents sagged in the first quarter. The NRI of 11 was the lowest since the beginning of 2004. While there was no change in the share of firms cutting jobs (12%), the percentage of firms adding employees (23%) fell to a three-year low. By sector, services again had the highest NRI (24), but this was a large drop-off from the January reading of 39. Goods-producing firms were shedding jobs on net, as they had in the fourth quarter, while TUIC respondents were evenly split between rising and shrinking employment.
