- Add an insert for your chapter’s membership.
Leverage the Roundtable teleconferences to give your members more benefits
- NABE has seven roundtables, featuring Corporate Planning, Finance, Healthcare Economics, International, Manufacturing, Regional/Utility and Technology.
- Watch IdeaLink for upcoming events.

Chapter membership campaign
- Nearly 25% of NABE’s members are also chapter members. Because we know that many chapter members value NABE, we’d like to invite all to join.
- NABE requests your chapter member contact list – e-mail, business address and phone number – to conduct a membership campaign over the next few months.
- Please send your chapter’s contact list to: doolittle@nabe.com.
Note from Laurie King: I really appreciate your support of this project. As you know, once people find out about NABE, they’re generally very excited about getting more involved. Thank you for introducing your chapter members to NABE and giving us the opportunity to officially invite them to join.
Best practices
- Reaching out to academic economists has been beneficial to a number of chapters. Some chapters partner with their local universities in a variety of ways, including holding events at the campus or working with professors to invite colleagues and students to NABE chapter events.
- The Richmond Chapter shared that in addition to academics, their vice president of membership and marketing focuses on the business community.
- The New York chapter shared that they are considering three-year membership renewals. They also said that Fed officials are one of the biggest draws in terms of their attendance.
- Get your attendees to prepay their registration fees. There are a number of ways to accomplish this: Use an electronic payment system, such as PayPal. It takes a bit of organization to set it up, but is well worth it. Be aware of handling fees that may be charged. A more basic method is to require that a check be received prior to your event. Some chapters have annual dues that incorporate the cost of lunches. Events that are hosted at the Fed tend to have fewer no-show or too many walk-ups due to the security procedures in place.
Addendum — Electronic payment systems

The Philadephia chapter uses www.acteva.com, and the web link we give out is

Pros
- Accurate head count
- Collect e-mails & contact info
- Payment in hand from no-shows, maybe the most important feature
- Faster processing time at events
- Direct deposit into bank account
- Fills out list of names I need for Federal Reserve security clearance
- Online database of everyone that has attended our events since inception
Cons
- Acteva clips us for nearly $3 a sign up but I am looking into replacing it
- An alternative, www.clubexpress.com, appears much better and would also replace our website that costs us $100 a year.
