Arthur A. Smith Memorial Award Recognizing Student Excellence in Economics


The ARTHUR A. SMITH OUTSTANDING STUDENT AWARD was created by the DFW Association for Business Economics decades ago to recognize student excellence in economics. Dr. Smith was a charter member of the Club in the early 1960s while he was chief economist of First National Bank of Dallas. In his memory, the Club established a student essay competition in which a number of North Texas universities with undergraduate economics, business or finance programs participate. Student nominees and their faculty advisors are then recognized at an annual luncheon in April.  A cash prize is awarded to the winning student.  Students must demonstrate knowledge of economics and indicate coursework, honors, extracurricular activity and professional goals in addition to submitting an essay.
