Logan Airport to Marriott Copley Place via MBTA
Due to construction problems associated with the “big dig”, some of the highway tunnels leading to Logan Airport are closed. The available routes are highly congested and subject to substantial delays. At present, public transportation offers the fastest (and by far cheapest) way to Boston. The MBTA, known as the “T”, has stations close to both the Airport and Copley Place.
Leave the terminal at Logan on the lower level (same as baggage claim). Look for the signs for the “shuttle bus”. This is a free service run by the airport. Buses run about every five minutes or less during peak periods. If you are at Terminals A or B, you want bus #22; if you are at Terminals C, D or E, you want bus #33.
Take this bus to the Airport MBTA Station for the Blue Line. Stops are clearly announced on the bus. Once there, you will need to buy a ticket from ticket machines; tickets cost $1.25 and the machines take charge cards. Enter the station and proceed over the tracks to the “inbound” platform. Stay near the front of the train to make connections easier. Take any train three stops to the State Station.
At State, change to the Orange Line. After exiting the train, go to the left and after a short corridor bear left and follow the signs for the Orange Line westbound to Forrest Hills. There is a long corridor on the way to the platform. Try to position yourself near the front of the train. Take any train four stops to Back Bay Station; at this station, doors open on the left-hand side of the train.
After exiting the train, go to the right and through the exit gates marked “Copley Place”. A tunnel takes you under Dartmouth Street and at the end will be a long escalator leading up to the Copley Place shopping mall. (There is also an elevator if you have lots of luggage.) Once in the mall, proceed strait ahead to the end of the mall. A short escalator brings you down to the entrance to the Marriott.
Total time: about 35-40 minutes. Cost: $1.25.
Marriott Copley Place to Logan Airport via MBTA
Due to construction problems associated with the “big dig”, some of the highway tunnels leading to Logan Airport are closed. The available routes are highly congested and subject to substantial delays. At present, public transportation offers the fastest (and by far cheapest) way to Logan Airport. The MBTA, known as the “T”, has stations close to both the Airport and Copley Place.
From the hotel lobby level, turn right and go up a short escalator into the Copley Place shopping mall. Go strait all the way to the end of the mall; do not turn either right or left. At the end will be a long escalator (elevator also available) down to a tunnel under Dartmouth Street. At the end of the tunnel a short stairway up will bring you into Back Bay Station.
This is the station for the MBTA Orange Line. Buy a token for $1.25 from the kiosk to the right and enter and down the stairs. (Elevator also available.) Take the platform to the right with trains headed for “Oak Grove”. Stay near the rear of the train for easier connections. Take any train four stops to State Station.
At State, change to the Blue Line. You want the outbound train to Wonderland (No, I don’t know how this station got it’s name), with an entrance near the rear of the Orange Line platform. You will need to go up two short stairways and down another. Once on the Blue Line, take any train three stops to the Airport Station.
At the exit, follow the crowds to the airport “shuttle bus”. This is a free bus run by the airport. Buses run about every five minutes or less during peak periods. There are two different routes: if you are leaving from Logan Terminals A or B, take route #22; for Terminals C, D or E, take route #33. If you do not know which terminal, there is a list of airlines and their locations at the bus stop. Locations and airlines are clearly announced on the bus. Once at your terminal, you will need to go to the upper level to reach your gate or check in.
Total time: about 35-40 minutes. Cost: $1.25.
