Join us for a discussion on the State of Small Business Lending including credit access during the recovery and how technology may change access to credit. During the 2008 crisis, small businesses were less able to secure bank credit because of a “perfect storm” of falling sales, weakened collateral, and risk aversion among lenders. Online platforms are emerging which are bringing small business lending into the 21st century by changing how small loans are evaluated and opening up entirely new pools of capital access in the process. There is evidence that access to bank credit for small firms was in steady decline prior to the crisis, hit hard during the crisis and has continued to decline in the recovery. Is there a gap in small business access to credit?

More on NSBA:
The National Small Business Association (NSBA) celebrating its 75th anniversary has been one of the nation’s leading small business advocates. Issues such as small business confidence; past and projected business growth; past and projected job growth and small business financing are some topics of concern as described in the Economic Outlook. As the 2012 election kicks into high gear, America’s small businesses continue to be the focal point for stump speeches, however what really maters is what happens after the campaigning is over according to the Politics Survey. While the respondent’s political persuasion played a key role in their opinions, all small business owners agree on one thing: economic and fiscal issues drive their voting decisions. The NSBA 2012 small business Taxation Survey provides timely and useful information on how taxes are impacting America’s small business community.
What are the major issues facing small business owners in 2012? Please join this upcoming SBERT sponsored teleconference to learn answers to this question and more.

There's no secret that start-ups are having a hard time finding capital these days. The venture capital industry is downsizing (755 first time fundings in 2009 vs.1038 in 2005). Angels and angel groups are an increasingly important part of the start-up ecosystem. Where do angels invest? Where do VC’s invest? Also, the SBA Business Dynamics Statistics reports that all net new jobs from 1985 – 2005 came from companies less than 5 years old. What's ahead for venture and the angel community? Can they continue to drive the economic growth and job creation engine that has served the US so well? And what is an entrepreneur to think and do?
